I’m sure a more qualified shooter could do better with it. This rifle, with me shooting it and Hornady Match ammunition is capable of groups of about 1 MOA. Most of the rifles had pistol grip stocks but there are several photos from Okinawa where a team of snipers had rifles in the straight stocks. The reticle is a cross hair with center dot which is supposed to aid in low light shooting. The scope 'floats' in its mounts and after every shot needs to be pulled back into battery. Later in the war, in campaigns such as Saipan and Okinawa they came back out with great results with accuracy beyond 1,000 yards. However, in retrospect they were probably referring to the M1903 with an earlier Winchester A5 telescope mounted to it. A report early in the war from the Raiders on Bougainville seemed to have damned the rifle because they cited that the scope was too powerful for the jungle engagements (75 yards or less) that they were facing. They mounted a 7.8x Unertl target scope to the rifle. The Marines chose to use former match and special target rifles for their inherent accuracy. This is a 1937 National Match rifle that the Marines converted to a sniper rifle in early 1943. If you have any questions check out the FAQ.

(I do have two other C stocks that may end up on the gun - whichever one shoots the best - an "S over 0" and a GAW marked one.) Buttplate is a brand new NM Coarse Checkered unit. Stock and handguard were bought as original USMC Sniper (cplnorton and I discussed this) marked "S over 9" in cutoff notch with a perfectly hand done "03A4 bolt cutout", apparently a very nicely done field modification and came with a leather "D" washer under the tang and fresh dry wood showing where it had been relieved for the washer - somebody put some effort into this stock long ago, square knob cut handguard marked "9" only, cut for Unertl front block. REAL Unertl "0" and "E" color casehardened scope blocks in brand new condition, probably get installed tomorrow. It tells how many scopes were made and how many were issued as well as the number of snipers issued. Bolts are BF46 and NS - BF headspaces better and is in rifle, has extractor with small escape hole. There is a great story about the USMC Sniper Scouts and the M1941 1903a1 sniper rifle.
Barrel is an excellent (measures 1/1 w/GI gauges) 12-35 SA. Springfield Receiver - 1358258 - excellent drill rifle receiver with black parkerize, drilled for Lyman/Redfield receiver sight w/plug screws, no Hatcher Hole, some ugliness around cutoff (w/serifs). Here is the data on my own M1903A1 Sniper clone (w/Unertl - or modern clone Leatherwood, my final purchase decision) as it currently exists:
